Right to Buy Scheme

Right to Buy is a government scheme that allows council tenants to buy their council rented home at a lower price than the full market value. The right to buy scheme entitles tenants to a discount on the market value of their property. The amount of discount will depend on how long you have been a secure tenant and whether you are buying a house or a flat/maisonette. The maximum discount is set by the Government and this is £38,000 from 21st November 2024. Tenants who submitted an application before this date are eligible for a discount up to £102,400 if they meet the qualifying rules. The discount amount will increase each year in April in line with the consumer price index (CPI).
