Sporting Future: A New Strategy for an Active Nation
This strategy for sport and physical activity moves beyond looking at how many people take part. It considers what people get out of participating and what more can be done to make a physically active life truly transformative. This strategy redefines what success looks like in sport by concentrating on five key outcomes: physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, individual development, social and community development and economic development.
Councils have the important role of bringing schools, voluntary sport clubs, National Governing Bodies of sport (NGBs), health and the private sector together to forge partnerships, unblock barriers to participation and improve the local sport delivery system. So local authorities have, and will continue to have, a crucial role to play in delivering sport and physical activity opportunities.
