New Mayor of Winchester elected at 2026 mayor-making

Councillor Jamie Scott has been elected as the 827th Mayor of Winchester.

A ceremony took place in Guildhall Winchester last night, Wednesday 20 May 2026. 

Cllr Scott, who is a councillor in the St Luke ward, was born in Winchester and has lived in the district for all of his life. Raised in Stanmore, he attended the local primary school and the-then Montgomery Alamein Secondary School (now Kings’ School).

He started his work career at John Menzies before moving to the NHS, and then to the community and voluntary sector. He also worked as a support worker to a child with SEN.   

Cllr Scott married his wife Wendy in 1994 and has one son. The couple’s first grandchild is due this summer.

Cllr Jamie Scott said: “My love and passion for Winchester runs through me and I have proudly represented St Luke ward since 2011.”   

Taking the Declaration of Acceptance of Office, the Mayor added: "I Jamie Scott, having been elected to the office of Mayor of the City of Winchester, hereby declare that I will take the said office upon myself and will duly and faithfully fulfil the duties thereof to the best of my judgement and ability."

Cllr Scott has selected Winchester Hospice and St John Ambulance as his Mayoral Charities for 2026-7.  

At the mayor-making, Cllr Stephen Godfrey was elected as Deputy Mayor.
