Diverse range of Mayoral Charity events in aid of local good causes
It’s been a successful season of events so far for the 2025/6 Mayor of Winchester’s supported charities.
Many events have sold out, including the Bollywood Evening and talks in the Mayor’s historic residence Abbey House. Proceeds from these events benefit three local charities; Trinity Winchester; Home-Start Winchester; and Winchester Action on the Climate Crisis (WinACC).
Performers at the recent Bollywood Evening in Colden Common Community Centre included Isha Kulkami, Garima Kachhawa and Pooja Rajguru, Team Naatya, Diya Das and Ashitha Satheesh, Otterbourne-based Tarangini Dance Academ, Rhythm dance troupe, and Vedic Garba Group.
The Mayor of Winchester Cllr Sudhakar Achwal said: “A spectacular evening of dances from various parts of India was enjoyed by the audience, many suitably costumed. I would like to extend my thanks to compere Geeta Belgi, and to Kitchencraft for the delicious Indian meal.”
At the recent jazz piano concert performed by the local musician and composer Robert Carter in St Paul’s Church, the venue was alive with music, atmosphere, and community spirit. Robert performed interpretations of works by composers including George Gershwin, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk in addition to several original pieces.
The Mayor continued: “My sincere thanks go to Robert Carter for giving Winchester a night of jazz that will be long remembered, and to everyone who attended and contributed. Your support helps make a real difference to the lives of people in our city.”
The next event in the Mayoral Charities 2025/6 calendar is a Murder Mystery evening in Twyford on Saturday, 15 November.
Coming up later in the season are the popular annual quiz, an Agatha Christie evening, a Ukrainian Christmas evening, a Burns Night celebration, and a Pie & Mash night.
Event tickets are available, as they are released for sale, from the official TicketSource page.
