Winchester Health Priorities
Our Health Priorities Statement is a strategic framework that outlines our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of residents across the district. This document sets out a clear, data-driven approach to addressing the social determinants of health, ensuring that our efforts are targeted, inclusive, and impactful. The framework aligns with our Council Plan 2025–2030 and reflects our ambition to foster strong, healthy communities where everyone can thrive.
The statement identifies fifteen priority areas, grouped under three overarching aims:
- Helping people remain healthy and live independently for longer
- Preventing ill health and long-term conditions
- Reducing inequalities between groups and places
These priorities are informed by evidence, including the Hampshire Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and feedback from the 2024 Residents Survey. They reflect both the strengths of our district and the challenges faced by specific communities, such as those in Winnall, Stanmore, and rural areas with older populations.
We recognise that we have a unique role in shaping the conditions that influence health outcomes. Through strategic partnerships and community engagement, we're committed to supporting mental health and wellbeing, promoting physical activity, improving access to green spaces, and addressing issues such as housing, cost of living, and climate resilience. This statement serves as a foundation for collaborative action and ongoing evaluation, ensuring that our health priorities remain relevant and responsive to the needs of our residents.
