Station Approach is an area within the city near Winchester Railway Station.
The Station Approach project is an opportunity to enhance an important area of our city and reimagine it’s cultural, business and retail offer in a way that keeps the area relevant, enhances our recovering economy and complements the existing and developing offers across other quarters of our city.

Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Committee: Regeneration is meeting at 2pm on Thursday 08 February 2024, in the Walton Suite, Guildhall, Winchester to hear an update on the progress of the Station Approach project – including a chance to hear from key members of the concept masterplan team, and you would be most welcome to attend.
Spaces are limited and we understand that these Committee meetings occur in working hours, so if you are unable to attend in person you can either watch the live video stream via YouTube during the meeting or catch up at your convenience by watching the video recording which is made available shortly afterwards.

On Tuesday 18th July 2023 Winchester City Council’s Cabinet met to review the Strategic Outline Case (SOC) and decide on the next steps for the Station Approach project.
At the meeting, Cabinet agreed to the development of a Concept Masterplan that would set out a vision of the whole site and be created in consultation with local people.
This means that in the future, should the area be developed one section at a time, the sites will complement each other and contribute to the regeneration of a cohesive ‘place’ overall.
It’s really important to us that local people and businesses continue to have their say and so, we’ll be sure to let you know how and when you can get involved in the creation of the concept masterplan.
If you would like to see the cabinet decision in full, the meeting was recorded live via YouTube, and you are welcome to watch it anytime via the council’s channel – here.
The document pack for this meeting, which includes the full SOC, is available as a link at the bottom of this page. The Station Approach report, CAB3413 can be found on pages 15 - 94.
On Wednesday 7th June 2023 Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Committee: Regeneration met to hear the results of the capacity study.
This study explored the ‘art of the possible’ and highlighted the opportunities, as well as the constraints of the site using technical data as well as the feedback from the public consultation. It looked at what could be possible from building types and size, street planting, how people travel through the site, plus what is economically viable.
The meeting was recorded live via YouTube, and you can watch it back at any time.
The document pack for this meeting is available as a link at the bottom of this page.
Information is always available on our project website which also features an interactive map for comments as well as a sign up option for newsletters and invitations to important meetings so that you can stay informed.
