City Council awarded RSPCA double Platinum for fourth consecutive year
Winchester City Council’s Animal Welfare team has been awarded two of the highest-level RSPCA awards for the fourth year running.
The esteemed Platinum PawPrints have been awarded to the city council by the animal protection charity for Stray Dog Services and for Animal Activity Licensing.
The PawPrints acknowledge dedication, compassion, and innovation in efforts to protect, promote and enhance the lives of animals, and Platinum recognises organisations that have achieved Gold in the same category for five or more consecutive years.
Winchester City Council is one of only 8 councils in England and Wales who have achieved Platinum status for Animal Activity Licensing, and one of only 29 councils who have achieved it for Stray Dog Services.
Cllr Steve Cramoysan, Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Member for Recycling and Public Protection, said: “This is an outstanding achievement recognising our exemplary Animal Welfare team, which works extremely hard all year round across the district.
“Completing our statutory duty under section 149 & 150 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, our team compassionately collects stray dogs and cares for them whilst working on the next steps. We also work with many wonderful animal welfare organisations who take dogs from us to give them a second chance.
“I find it personally reassuring to know that, should our family dog go missing, our outstanding team is there to ensure it would be well looked after until we could be reunited.
“Well done to our Animal Welfare Officers and the rest of the team!"
