Sustainably refurbished community play area reopens

It’s play time once again at a local playpark, which has reopened to the public after a full refurbishment.

Winchester City Council’s Town Forum arranged for works to take place at the Chaundler Road play area in Abbots Barton.

Bright and colourful new equipment, including more swings, a trampoline, sensory panels and a roundabout, has been added, and existing equipment has been fully refurbished. Additional seating has also been put in place, and a communication board has been installed.

The new equipment has been made with recycled materials, and the new safer ground surfacing is made from over 7,000 recycled training shoes.

Cllr Kathleen Becker, Winchester City Council Cabinet Member for Healthy Communities, said: “It is fantastic to see this valued outside space reopen to our community. The play area has been revitalised, sustainably and sensitively, as part of the wider Winchester Town Forum programme of works, and fantastic new equipment sits alongside that which was perfectly good and simply in need of refurbishment.

“We have already heard from one resident who is delighted with the new swings, and we hope that all of the play space’s users have a wonderful time trying out new equipment in the fresh air, whilst also revisiting their old favourites which have been given a new lease of life.”
