Community comes together for Stanmore festive lunch
A recent festive celebration in Stanmore welcomed 65 over 65s to the Sportsman’s Club for lunch, entertainment and more.
The lunch was arranged by Winchester City Council’s (WCC) Tenant Partnership Team in collaboration with CARDO, A2Dominion, and Stanmore residents, and the venue was provided free of charge by the club. Fourteen volunteers from WCC, CARDO, A2Dominion, and the club supported on the day.
The event formed part of the wider Love Stanmore initiative and a team of 12 local tenants helped shape the day, including selecting the venue, reviewing invitations, planning the menu and entertainment, and donating raffle prizes – including Theatre Royal Winchester panto tickets for older residents and schoolchildren.
Performers included Stanmore Primary School, Hannah Williams, and Mark Jacobs and his daughter. Stanmore PS pupils also created 90 personalised Christmas cards for the occasion.
One resident said: “I didn’t expect to have Christmas this year, but you brought it to me.”
Winchester City Council’s Cabinet Member for Good Homes Cllr Mark Reach said: “What a wonderful festive celebration this was for the community! I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in bringing it all together so successfully.
“It is also exciting to learn that the Love Stanmore resident group has plans to continue meeting and developing projects, including a Memory Café initiative for older residents.”
