Mayor of Winchester lays wreath at Abbey House

The Mayor of Winchester has laid a wreath to pay his respects following the announcement of Her Majesty The Queen’s death.

Outside Abbey House on Friday 9 September, Cllr Derek Green, the 823rd Mayor of Winchester, laid a wreath as the nation began mourning its longest reigning monarch.

After the wreath was laid, The Mayor opened the Book of Condolence, which will remain open at The Guildhall for people to pay their respects between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 10 September, between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 11th September, and between 10am and 6pm Monday 12 September to Friday 16 September.

In Winchester, people have been welcomed to lay floral tributes at the Cathedral, the Great Hall, and at Abbey Gardens. Many have already laid bouquets, personal notes and candles in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.
