Winchester City Council supports first Winchester District Climate Assembly event

A full day event dedicated to discussing local priorities for reducing carbon emissions and reducing the cost of living is being hosted in Winchester for the first time and will offer residents across the district an opportunity to join the conversation.

The event, led by Winchester Together for our Planet, is being held at Winchester Guildhall on Saturday 22 October between 10am and 4.30pm. Cllr Kelsie Learney, the Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency at the city council will be joining the event to listen to participants views and speak about how they will influence the Council’s plans to achieve carbon neutrality.

Cllr Kelsie Learney said:

“We have made a commitment to being a carbon neutral as a district - an ambitious target, but one we are determined to progress. We know it will take the effort from everyone, individuals, national and local government and organisations alike for us to achieve this. I am always pleased to take part in events like these, as the more we talk about the issues, the more we are bringing the challenges to the forefront. I encourage everyone to take part – no prior knowledge is needed and all are welcome.”

Cllr Learney will join several other speakers on the day which promises to be full of interesting debate. The Winchester District Climate Assembly, follows the success of the Young People’s Climate Assembly in 2021. All reasonable expenses will be reimbursed on the day, so that everyone can take part regardless of costs. A lunch will also be provided from Munch and one lucky participant will win a free family ticket to Marwell Zoo.
