A message from Cllr Patrick Cunningham
Cllr Patrick Cunningham, Mayor of Winchester, ended his term of office with the following address to local people:
“Being elected Mayor of Winchester is a huge honour for anyone, but for me in particular – as an Irishman in his adopted city – it is also an enormous privilege, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
“The impact of the pandemic meant the cancellations of most of the annual engagements and sadly all of the grand ceremonial events surrounding the mayoralty this year – it’s been a very strange year for us all.
“However, the most rewarding aspect of being Mayor during the pandemic was the honour of meeting and personally thanking so many local COVID-19 heroes.
“Once again, thank you for the honour you have bestowed on me and as the late Captain Sir Tom Moore said: “Tomorrow will be a good day.”
