More than 70 new council houses approved for Winchester
More than 70 new council homes will be built in Winchester after the full business case for The Valley housing scheme was approved by councillors.
The development in Stanmore will include a mix of one, two and three-bedroom flats, two and three-bedroom houses and a three-bedroom bungalow.
A planning application for the 77 new homes was approved in the summer.
Winchester City Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Housing, Cllr Caroline Horrill said:
“This is fantastic news and it means that we can make real inroads in reducing the council waiting list and ensuring that our residents can live in the district.
“This scheme is also a key part of our strategy to build 1,000 homes over the next 10 years and also continue to provide a range of housing options for residents.”
The development will offer a mix of affordable rented and shared ownership opportunities for the district’s residents.
The scheme, which is expected to start in April, will also benefit from a minimum £3.2m cash injection from Homes England, with potential for further funds to be secured.
