New parish council meets for the first time

A new parish council in the Winchester district is now up and running following a community governance review.

Newlands Parish Council, which will serve the major development area of West of Waterlooville has held its first meeting.

The governance review was large engagement exercise to see how local people in the area wanted to be governed; it received more than 600 responses with 74 percent of these asking for a new parish council to be formed to serve the major development area of West of Waterlooville.

Newlands Parish Council, chairman, Cllr David Crichton, said:

“Newlands Parish Council serves the West of Waterlooville area but we are aiming to help foster a new community and looking at issues that cross ward boundaries. We will achieve this by participating in the West of Waterlooville Forum.

"We’re very pleased to finally get going and hope residents attend meetings and keep up-to-date by visiting our website.”

Meetings for the new council are currently held at Wellington Vale Care Home and to find out more about Newlands Parish Council and dates of meeting visit http://www.newlands-pc.gov.uk/community/the-parish-council-of-newlands-15104/home
