A greener Winchester District: kerbside glass collection boxes now being distributed to residents
Kerbside glass collection boxes are now being distributed to residents in the Winchester district. The boxes are part of the city council’s new waste collection service and wider commitment to improving our environment through more effective recycling.
Winchester District residents can find out about their glass collection days online at the Winchester City Council website.
Cabinet Member for Environment at Winchester City Council, Cllr Lynda Murphy, said:
“This new service is just one of the many steps that the council will be taking to move towards becoming carbon neutral. The service will improve glass recycling rates in the district and will be a real benefit to those who cannot drive and find it difficult to take their bottles and jars to bottle banks to recycle their glass.”
This service coincides with the climate change emergency the council declared this year and aims to make the activities of the council carbon neutral by 2024 and the wider district carbon neutral by 2030.
