Friarsgate car park partial closure
Part of the Friarsgate car park in Winchester will be closed from Friday 9 May.
Around 100 parking spaces will be unavailable because of the closure. One hundred and thirty spaces plus three disabled parking bays will remain available for use within the car park. There is capacity at the nearby Chesil Street multi-storey and Brooks car parks and in the city’s Park & Ride.
The closure is a precaution and results from regular inspection of the Friarsgate car park by structural engineers which revealed corrosion of some metal reinforcing bars within concrete pillars.
The Friarsgate car park is reaching the end of its life. Its structural safety has been maintained with regular inspections and closures when necessary. Regular safety inspections will continue. The car park will be replaced by the forthcoming Silver Hill development.
Winchester City Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
