Winchester Art Club Annual Exhibition 2012
From the 1 to 30 September City Space in Winchester Discovery Centre will be hosting the 2012 Winchester Art Club Annual Exhibition.
Winchester Art Club was founded in 1919 and developed from the Winchester Fine Arts Society which had existed since 1888. The objective of the Club is to encourage the practice of fine arts in Winchester, particularly among those who paint as a hobby. Each year club members, who range from complete beginners to experienced artists, submit their work for judging. The best are selected for inclusion in the annual exhibition, now in its fifth year in City Space.
Cllr. Patricia Stallard, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Sport for Winchester City Council said:
It is always a pleasure to welcome the Winchester Art Club whose members never fail to deliver a colourful and inspiring show which is always popular with visitors to City Space.”
To mark the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics the Winchester Art Club have invited their members to submit work under a special 2012 category reflecting the Olympic values: excellence, friendship and respect. The winners will be exhibited in this year’s exhibition.
On Friday 31 August Winchester Art Club will present ‘James Whistler: the gentle art of making enemies’ an evening talk by popular art historian and author Douglas Skeggs.
