Continental Shifts - Friday 21 August

Continental Shifts will continue to bring vibrancy to city centre streets this Friday evening between 4.30pm and 8pm.

Last Friday, Grandpa’s Spells performed some Dixieland Jazz, children learned how to spin plates, and a man dressed as Wonder Woman sang some Bill Withers songs! Continental Shifts is running until 28th August, so if you’ve still got a chance to enjoy some quality entertainment at the end of the working week.

This week in The Square we head across the pond to the Americas with some Brazilian music by four piece Tempo Nova, a steel pan duo bringing a Caribbean flavour to Winchester, and magic from Alex Whitwell who will astound you with his close-up tricks.

You’ll have a chance to try your hand at juggling, diablo, unicycling and more as the Table Top circus host a drop in session for families by the City Museum. Daniel Goncalves will also be performing his Covent Garden show; winning you over with his gentle and playful clowning around.  Watch out for another clown too, one with a problem staying awake – your shoulder could make an ideal pillow!

Also on Friday, find out what’s been lurking in Winchester’s dark corners at the Mythical Creatures of Winchester Tours. If all this isn't enough there will be impromptu performances by The Southampton Ukulele Jam Orchestra who will be playing sets around the High Street and Little Minster Street. And what with all the fine food, drink and lively conversation on offer, Winchester will be the place to be this Friday.

What do you think of Continental Shifts?

Winchester City Council would like your thoughts on Continental Shifts, how the event can be improved, and whether they should be run again next summer.

Continental Shifts is a shared initiative between Winchester City Council and the Winchester BID, designed to create a buzz in the centre of the town at what is often a quiet time at the end of the working day. The events run every Friday until August 28th featuring live music from around the world, street art, fine food and a lively atmosphere.
