Champagne & Celebration at Lainston House
The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Sue Nelmes, joined the staff of Lainston House Hotel near Winchester to toast their success in the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2007. Lainston House was named one of the best in the entire country when they won a silver award in the Small Hotel of the Year category.
The glittering award ceremony was hosted by writer and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig and held at the impressive Banqueting Hall in London. The judges said in their summing up, "Lainston House, Winchester, is a member of the Exclusive Hotels group offering extremely high levels of service and set in large grounds. Large double bathrooms are a feature, whilst attention to detail, such as established walks in the garden and packed lunches add an extra touch."
The hotel has now won a third rosette for its restaurant, and last year acquired one of the new Hampshire Hospitality Awards for the quality of its dining experience and the hotel's use of local produce. With a new kitchen garden opening this summer, the hotel hopes to be growing 40% of its vegetables and also continue to use all the fruits and herbs from the garden too. To complete a line-up of tasty food offerings, this month sees the start of Lainston's Chocolate Master Classes with UK Chocolate Master Mark Tillings.
The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Sue Nelmes, said, "Congratulations to all at Lainston House, under General Manager Cliff Hasler - for reinforcing the message that a visit to Winchester promises a high quality experience."
