'Preparing Winchester for the Games'
The greatest sporting event in the world is coming to London, and Winchester District Sport and Physical Alliance (SPAA) want to ensure that the district has lots of opportunities to get involved.
They are hosting an event for you to find out how residents in the Winchester District can prepare for London 2012, and to get inspiration from Danny Crates, a 2012 Ambassador and Paralympian Gold Medalist. Why not come along and put forward your ideas on how the Winchester community can be more involved in developing initiatives and encouraging people to become more physically active.
The aim of the event is to encourage anyone who is interested in the London 2012 Olympics to work together to make the lead up to 2012 and beyond a very special time for the Winchester District. This period will offer us a once in a life time opportunity to use the biggest sporting event in the world to encourage as many people as possible to participate in sport.
The event will take place on Monday 25th June, 7 - 9.30pm at Westley Court, The Wessex Conference Centre, Sparsholt College. To book a place at the event complete the on-line booking form. There are limited spaces available - bookings are on a first come, first served basis.
The build up to the games will also help the SPAA's 'Developing active communities towards 2012 and beyond' strategy. The key objectives of this strategy are to:
- Increase the number of people who are physically active
- Increase the number of sports coaches, officials and volunteers
- Improve access to high quality sport and physical activity facilities
This strategy will make a significant contribution to the overall 'vision' for the Winchester District.
The Olympics can be used as a catalyst for Winchester residents and communities to find a role in sport and physical activity that can assist in building a more positive future for the district.
