Whiteley skatepark ready for the summer

Young people in Whiteley will soon be able to enjoy brand new skatepark facilities on land next to the Meadowside Leisure Centre.

Ground works for this project were completed some time ago and equipment, which has been built and held in storage for many months because of issues with the supplier, has been moved to the site for final construction.

"For many years, the provision of a skatepark has been number one on the wish list for local youngsters - their patience will be rewarded at last," said Patricia Stallard, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Sport at Winchester City Council. "Winchester City Council, in partnership with Fareham Borough Council, is honouring a long-standing commitment to provide local youngsters with a skatepark."

George Hollingbery, Deputy Leader of Winchester City Council, explained "we paid for it all a long time ago and it's cheaper to install than store it. Some people might query why we are installing this equipment now when we are also asking local residents whether or not we should use the same piece of land for a new school.

"This will have no effect on any decision that may be made in the future regarding the potential location of a new primary school. The equipment can be reused on any new site as needed."
