Community Chest awards second round of grants

Winchester City Council Community Services has made the second round of grant awards under its new scheme for the District, the Community Chest. The first grants were awarded in June.

Awards were made to nine local groups, including Wickham Summer Playscheme for a drumming workshop for young people to experience the music and have a go (£250), Alresford and District Neighbourhood Watch to commission a performance on the issues surrounding the fear of crime (£300), Lionel Tubbs Community Hall for new seating (£250) and South Wonston Table Tennis Club for an adjustable table to aid young and disabled players (£380).

Cllr Brian Collin, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Healthy and Inclusive Communities, said "Awards made from the Community Chest can make a real difference for the groups who are doing good things in their community.  In this round we have been able to mix social functions with sport, leisure and artistic expression.  I am looking forward to the next round of awards"

The Community Chest is an innovative new scheme aimed at voluntary and community groups in the Winchester District that offers small grants of up to £500 towards projects, activities and one-off pieces of expenditure.
