Wanted: Parish Councillors
Four Parishes in the Winchester District are still looking for members to join their local Councils. Bishops Waltham, Colden Common, Sparsholt and Twyford Councils all have vacancies.
Parish Councils are involved in a wide range of local issues. They see all planning applications and are invited to comment on them, they are involved in the running and maintenance of parks and open spaces and often play a significant part in supporting a wide range of community activities.
Stephen Whetnall, Winchester City Council's Electoral Returning Officer, said " The parish councils are vital for the democratic process, allowing local people with local knowledge to help make decisions about issues that directly affect them. It can be a very interesting and rewarding position, being part of a team that can make a real difference to the lives of those in their area."
In order to qualify for a position on the Parish and Town Councils, candidates must:
Be at least 21 years of age
Be on the list of electors for the parish
Or, during the whole of the preceding 12 months have:
Occupied land in the parish as owner or tenant
or
Had a principal place of work there
or
Resided in or within three miles (4.8k) of the Parish.
There are six vacancies in total - Bishops Waltham and Colden Common have two each, while Sparsholt and Twyford have one each. Each Council is looking for enthusiastic members to take a genuine interest in local issues and who want to put something back into the community.
