Following the gallery’s summer refurbishment Winchester Gallery are delighted to be re-opening with a freash new space with a show by Yolande Harris. On Behalf of These: Sound Portal for Bell Bubbles features glass, video, sound, textile and drawings. A special new work joins earlier Sound Portals that combines research into whales, underwater sound and local bell-ringing traditions, bringing together three Sound Portals for the first time.  Yolande Harris considers interspecies communication and poetic listening in times of environmental change. Floating from the deep ocean up into the cathedral tower, On Behalf of These/Sound Portal for Bell Bubbles brings oceanic consciousness into terrestrial consciousness. The liquidity of sound traces threads of air through whales and bells, sitting on the edges of meaning and finding our deep, intuitive connections across the natural world. Emerging, floating, it crosses the audible, visual, material and spiritual to inhabit the in-between ways of finding connections at the edges of where the sonic leads. 

Yolande Harris is a Senior Lecturer in Art and Media Technology, a composer, sound and video artist with an internationally recognized research practice that focuses on the transformative potential of sound and listening.
