Description

article thumb - art at st barts spring 2024

After the success of last year’s illustrated lecture series, Three Saints Benefice are delighted to present three more talks by talented and highly respected artists, this time putting a modern slant on ancient crafts that were also much in demand in the days of the great medieval Hyde Abbey.

Thursday 18th April: Simon Smith, Stone Carver

Thursday 16th May: Helen Whittaker, Stained Glass artist

Thursday 13th June: Prue Cooper, Potter

Prue's work celebrates friendship and the sharing of simple pleasures. Some dishes are inscribed with lettering. These quotations are integral to the design, in the same way that words are essential to a song. Her cast of characters comment on life. The warm directness of slipware, the physicality of ceramic, and the simple fact that a large dish for food implies daily life and sociability. All are fundamental parts of the whole.
