Local Land Charges

The Land Charges Department provides information to solicitors and other conveyancing professionals, as part of the conveyancing process for land and property sales.

The service provides information on various matters that may affect a property. These include details of planning permissions and restrictions, highway rights and proposals, development proposals for the property, environmental health notices, and building control matters. This information is used by solicitors to advise clients, as part of the process of buying a property.

On average the section deals with around 4,000 searches a year and our turnaround time for a search is approximately 10 working days.

Also, any person may request a personal search and veiw only the Local Land Charges Register free of charge.

Computerisation

The Land Charges Service is now computerised, backed up by existing manual records.

Requesting a Search

There are three ways to request a search:

Post

You can send your request along with the fee ( cheque only made payable to Winchester City Council) by post to Land Charges Department, Winchester City Council, Colebrook Street, Winchester, SO23 9LJ.

Email

We now accept requests by email to landcharges@winchester.gov.uk  To use this service, please email us your request using the official forms and submitting one site location plan and a contact telephone number, and we will then contact you with the correct fee to pay by debit/credit cards. Please note that we are not able to accept email requests if you wish to pay by cheque.

We have signed up to NLIS (National Land & Information Service) level two .
