Winchester City Council’s Cabinet approve recommendations to purchase Chilcomb Sports Ground

Winchester City Council’s Cabinet has agreed to recommendations that the authority purchases the freehold of Chilcomb Sports Ground.

The ground in Petersfield Road, Winchester is currently owned by Hampshire County Council and the proposal would see the ground managed by the City Council. Currently the 11 acre ground has three well-maintained sports pitches and a pavilion. If the purchase is agreed the City Council has scope to change the layout of the pitches and will also be looking to invest in the pavilion facility.

Cllr Lisa Griffiths, Portfolio Holder for Sports and Physical Activity said:

“This is fantastic news and means sports teams can continue to play on these well-maintained pitches and use a pavilion that we’re aiming to improve. Its possible that the grounds could be utilised more in the future –we’ll look into the layout and see where the opportunities lie.

This purchase reflects the Council’s goals around improving the health and happiness of the District’s community – part of that means making sure that residents have access to leisure facilities .”
