Winchester Mayor to present Mayor’s Awards for Schools to deserving pupils

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Jane Rutter, is to present Mayor’s Awards for Schools to local primary school children.

A pair of awards will be presented to pupils chosen by the headteacher each time the Mayor visits a primary school in the District.

One award will recognise the child who has made the most progress in the past term, in any area of endeavour, e.g. academic progress, music, sport, behaviour or something as simple as attendance.

The second, and equal, award will recognise a child who has been a consistently good performer, again in any area of school life that the headteacher deems appropriate.

Each award will consist of a pin badge and a certificate, plus a book token to the value of £20.

The Mayor’s Awards for Schools will be launched in September and Cllr Rutter is keen to visit as many schools as possible before the end of her Mayoral term in May 2017.

Cllr Rutter commented:

I am very excited to be launching this new initiative to make a visit form the Mayor to one of our local primary schools even more special. I hope that headteachers will see the Mayor’s Awards for Schools as a way to recognise special children in their schools.

I want to see fresh effort recognised, in whatever field, with an award from the Mayor. Likewise, I want to see a pupil who has knuckled down and worked consistently well, whether it be in the academic arena, or something as simple as having an excellent attendance record, recognised as well.

I look forward to presenting many Mayor’s Awards in schools over the coming months.
