New parish plans for local villages

The communities of Droxford and Durley have published new parish plans after months of hard work by local residents.

Durley Parish Plan achieved a high level of participation, with 81% of households responding. More than 98% of respondents were happy living in Durley; they were keen to investigate the potential and viability for a community shop at the village hall. The main areas of concern for residents are roads, traffic and broadband.

Droxford Parish Plan was well supported, with public meetings and a household questionnaire encouraging responses from 54%. Young people at junior and secondary schools were also given the opportunity to contribute their views and opinions. Unsurprisingly, residents in Droxford value very highly the “attractive, unspoiled surroundings” and “beautiful countryside”. They were less happy with noise and danger they felt was caused by traffic on the main A32 through the parish and with the standard of broadband provision. A total of 24 actions were identified to make Droxford a better place to live in the future.

Residents and parish councils will now work with others to try and resolve the issues identified in the plans.

Both plans can be viewed, with other completed plans, at http://www.winchester.gov.uk/community/community-plans/completed-plans/.

There have now been four community plans published in 2015, after the earlier publication of Denmead Neighbourhood Plan and Wonston Parish Plan, bringing the total number of community plans in Winchester District to twenty four.
