Free microchipping event for dogs

A free microchipping event for dogs will be held in Denmead in August to help owners get ready for new regulations that come into force in 2016.

The event is being run by Dave Griffiths and May Carrington of Winchester City Council’s Animal Welfare Team at Denmead Community Centre on Wednesday 26 August (10am-4pm).

Under the Microchipping of Dogs Regulations 2015, every keeper of a dog that is not microchipped has until 6 April 2016 to microchip their dog and register with an approved database.

The Dogs’ Trust, the Blue Cross and other local businesses and charities will also be in attendance, providing educational talks, games and giveaways.

From 6 April 2016 keepers must ensure that all dogs over eight weeks of age are microchipped and registered with an approved microchip database and that, where a dog is transferred, the new keeper updates the details straight away.

All dogs and owners are welcome and the procedure should not take more than 20 minutes, depending on queuing time.
