A new vision for future Winnall
Following a round of consultation events and information-gathering activities earlier this year, Winchester City Council and consultants Parsons Brinckerhoff have developed a vision for the future of the Winnall neighbourhood.
The vision – and the changes to local infrastructure which would help to realise it – will be the subject of a day of intensive meetings with residents, businesses and other agencies delivering services in the Winnall area today (Wednesday 11 March).
In preparation for the consultation events, postcards have been delivered to every household in Winnall encouraging people to come and look at a series of exhibition boards. The boards set out a number of suggested improvements for the area, with a view to determining a final action plan for the City Council and its partners over the coming ten years. Options for discussion come under three themes – Living in Winnall, Working in Winnall and Travelling in Winnall.
The proposed vision – which will also be refined in response to local feedback – talks of Winnall as a place where people are proud to live and work, providing space for companies to start up, stay and grow. It emphasises the importance of green space, a community ‘heart’ and improved opportunities for car-free travel. The vision is of a Winnall which provides an attractive and welcoming gateway to the city, and a place for continued economic investment and success.
With meetings for businesses and stakeholders arranged earlier in the day, the open drop-in session at Winnall Community Centre in Garbett Road takes place from 3pm to 6pm. Everyone is welcome, and the consultant team will be on hand to explain how their ideas have been developed in response to earlier feedback.
Anyone unable to attend can view the exhibition boards at the Tesco store in Winnall in the Scan as you Shop area of the store until Wednesday 18 March, or between Thursday 19 March and Tuesday 24 March at Winchester Tourist Information Centre on the Broadway.
Questionnaires have been produced to capture feedback on each of the three themes, and will be available in hard copy with the exhibition boards or can be found on line at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FutureWinnallOptions until Tuesday 24 March.

The first round of consultation in January was extremely well supported – and very lively. I hope that the ideas being put forward at this ‘options’ stage generate just as much debate and interest.
As a Council that has long been committed to supporting the local economy, we have been pleased to see the recommendations from the consultants to protect and enhance employment land in Winnall whilst at the same time reinforcing the relationships between the business and the residential areas.
