Funding for Winchester-based cultural organisations

Winchester City Council is introducing a new cultural grant scheme for festivals, major cultural events and arts activities taking place in the Winchester District for the benefit of local residents.

The individual grants are for up to £2,000 and will be allocated on first-come, first-served basis. Winchester City Council has allocated a total of £10,000 to support cultural grants in this financial year.

The council will be funding projects which fit the aims and aspirations of Winchester District’s Cultural Strategy. The grant will help local communities to organise cultural and creative events or activities that will encourage economic prosperity. We will also be looking for projects that sustain and develop Winchester District’s visitor appeal, attract new investment to the District or improve social well-being.

Kate Cloud, Winchester City Council’s Head of Economy and Arts, said:

At Winchester City Council, we take great pride in the work we do to support our local economy. We recognise that creative industries are one of our key sectors, and we want to continue to support the sector as best we can. We are looking to either help make creative people sustainable business people, or encourage career progression within the creative sector. These new grants complement the arts advisory service we offer, and other cultural activities across the city including the Cultural network events.

Cultural organisations must be based and be active within the Winchester City Council area, and show evidence of need of grant funding. For guidelines, full grant criteria and an application form visit http://www.winchester.gov.uk/culturalgrants . For an informal chat about your application please contact Alison Woods, Economy and Arts Development Manager.
