Community cookery skills courses

A new six-week course of community cookery skills classes aimed at men over 55 will be run by Winchester City Council, thanks to a public health funding grant from Hampshire County Council.

The course has had previous success in a number of areas across the Winchester District. Des Holyhead, who attended the course in Bishop’s Waltham, said:

My wife was going into hospital, so it was a case of either come on the course or starve!

The six-week course will help people gain ideas and tips on preparing simple healthy meals.
The classes will be held at Winchester Fire Station, Easton Lane, Winnall SO23 0LF. The weekly sessions will be from 2-3.30pm, from 11 May – 22 June (excluding Bank Holiday Monday).

In a friendly, relaxed atmosphere participants will consider:

  •  How to cook a range of simple meals from start to finish
  •  Food shopping ideas
  •  Food hygiene and storage
  •  Importance of healthy eating to health and wellbeing

All places must be booked in advance. Please contact Nicola Lawrence on 01962 848083 or email nlawrence@winchester.gov.uk

The course costs just £1 per session and all ingredients are provided.
