London 2012 Torch Relay visits Winchester
On Wednesday 11 July 2012 over 30,000 people welcomed the Olympic Torch Relay to Winchester in style. The streets were lined with people of all ages waving flags, ribbon wands and banging on drums, all in anticipation of seeing this once on a lifetime spectacle and to support our Winchester torchbearers. There was a real buzz in the city with entertainment from a variety of local acts, as well as the activation crews who came ahead of the torch. The community spirit of the day was evident for all to see and Winchester City Council staff were working hard alongside Hampshire County Council ACSOs and the Police to ensure a well organised and safe event for everyone.
