Successful planning enforcement action in Soberton

A Soberton resident has been fined £1000 and ordered to pay £750 costs by Fareham Magistrates after failing to demolish walls and gates at the entrance to his property along Dradfield Lane, Soberton.

Mr Young of S&D Nurseries had failed to comply with an Enforcement Notice issued by Winchester City Council requiring the walls and gates to be demolished after he had constructed them without planning permission.

Two government appointed Inspectors agreed with the Council that the walls and gates were out of character with the area and should therefore be removed. The walls and gates had been partly demolished prior to the hearing but the Magistrates ordered Mr Young to fully comply with the notice.

Cllr Rob Humby, portfolio holder for Planning said,

This case is reminder to all residents of the district of the consequences of undertaking works without planning permission. It has been an expensive lesson for Mr Young who was given plenty of opportunity to comply with the notice but choose to ignore it’.
