A Christmas and New Year Message from the Right Worshipful, the Mayor of Winchester

Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Barry Lipscombe

How time flies – and not just when we are frantically getting ready for the Festive Season, though that is very real for most of us as I write this! Will we ever be ready, will those last cards get sent and the final presents bought? Probably - no, certainly, as aren’t they always!!?

Time is also flying for my wife, Christine, and I, as we are now already into the second half of our Mayoral Year, which ends in May 2012. I want to take this opportunity, at a time when we traditionally appreciate those around us, to thank all those across this wonderful District who have made our first 7 months so very enjoyable and memorable. Wherever we have been, in a very busy schedule of visits to a wide variety of groups, organisations and companies, the welcome has been so warm and genuine, as I hope has our interest in return. We look forward to more of the same in 2012. If your organisation would like us to visit, please call the Mayor’s secretary on 01962 848259.

Raising money for my chosen charities is going well; the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, The Rifles Care for Casualties Appeal and the Winchester Cancer Research Trust will all benefit from your generosity. We have some great events coming up – do please support us and enjoy yourselves at the same time. Visit www.mayorofwinchesterscharities.co.uk for details and e-mail mayorscharities@winchester.gov.uk for further information and tickets. Next up is The Big Quiz on 14 January, followed by the St Valentine’s Banquet and Ball on 17 February and The Rifles Band & Bugles in Concert in the Cathedral on 29th March – with more to follow!

With very best wishes to all for a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Healthy New Year and please remember to keep an eye out for those who may be on their own at this time,

Councillor Barry Lipscomb
