Winchester Tourist Information Centre Scoops Gold at National Industry Awards once again

The team at Winchester Tourist Information Centre is celebrating after winning the gold award in the national Tourist Information Service of the Year category at the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence – proving that Winchester leads the country in providing the best tourist information service. The trophy returns to Winchester after the team won the same award in 2006.

Organised by VisitEngland, the annual Awards recognise the outstanding commitment to customer service and high quality standards offered by the tourist information team.

The judges noted the culture of innovation that drives customer service improvement at Winchester Tourist Information Centre (TIC). The sheer volume of initiatives undertaken to welcome visitors and the high quality of the TIC’s responses to various mystery shopping challenges helped seal the win.

Sarah Harfield, Team Leader at Winchester Tourist Information Centre said,
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won the gold award when the competition was so tough. It’s a huge achievement and is a fitting reward for the commitment and enthusiasm shown by our excellent team who often go beyond the call of duty in responding to customers’ enquiries.

“At a time of so much change in the tourism industry it is great to have this national recognition for Winchester’s efforts to enhance our visitors’ experience.”

The team went through to the national awards after winning Gold in the regional Tourism South East Awards in October last year. The award was presented by writer and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig at the Great Hall in Birmingham on Friday 15 April 2011 and was shared with Morecambe TIC.

Pop in and experience the award-winning service for yourself and take a look at the trophy. The tourist information centre is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, Sundays and Bank Holidays 11am to 4pm. Or call 01962 840 500, email tourism@winchester.gov.uk or see www.visitwinchester.co.uk
