Royal Wedding Street parties – Wintonians leading the way!

Winchester has a long history of being at the heart of royal events from its days as the ancient capital of England, and even played host to the royal wedding of Mary Tudor and Phillip II of Spain in 1554.

The Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is no different with the whole district getting ready to celebrate. With 23 street parties confirmed already and more applications coming in every day, Winchester is already in the top 5 cities league table as produced by the Local Government Association.

The City Council is helping organisers by not charging for road closures and not insisting on public liability insurance if the road closure does not affect through traffic.

There is still time to get your applications in as the deadline is the 15 April – so if you’ve been wondering what to do with your extra bank holiday why not organise a street party where you live?
