Silver Hill: development possible once again
The future of Winchester’s Silver Hill redevelopment scheme looks brighter once again, following the interest shown by Henderson Global Investments. Winchester City Council’s Cabinet met today (24 Nov) to agree their position if Henderson buy the shares of Thornfield Winchester Ltd which went into administration earlier in the year.
The Cabinet agreed to respond to a number of points raised by Henderson which would demonstrate the Council’s willingness to see the scheme go ahead. The proposed investment creates an opportunity for the much needed regeneration of this part of the city with shops, housing and local services.
Cllr Kelsie Learney, Leader of the City Council said, “This is good news for the City as the prospects for the Silver Hill development look much better. The fact that an investor like Henderson sees the potential in a scheme in Winchester is a real credit to the city.
“We hope that the scheme will once again generate the excitement that it had previously amongst residents and businesses as we look forward to improving our City for the future”.
The development process is complex and will take some time to get through but construction could start in 2013 or 2014.
