New mural brightens up passage on St George’s Street

A new mural has helped to brighten-up a pedestrian passageway along St George’s Street in Winchester City Centre.

Local artists from the Colour Factory in Gordon road were called in to help add a touch of colour and light to the passageway behind Café Centro. The mural displays a variety of themes and colours and, together with the installation of new lighting and further decorating, it has helped to brighten-up the passage for those who walk through it.

The project was developed and financed jointly by Winchester City Council and Winchester BID, and came in response to comments from the public that the short passageway was too dull.

Kevin Warren, Head of Estates at Winchester City Council, added: “We wanted to do something that would brighten up the passageway and encourage more people to walk through it. Hence, along with the installation of new lighting, we have invited local artists to add some extra colour and imagination to the improvements.”
