New iPhone application helps you plan days out in Hampshire
Winchester’s Tourist Information Centre is now featured on an iPhone application called Days Out in Hampshire.
Days Out in Hampshire is a guide to finding interesting and fun days out for the whole family. The application, which was built by Winchester software developer Mike Sheard, allows users to pan and zoom around a map of Hampshire using the iPhone screen to find activities and events across the County.
Customers can now use their iPhone or iPod Touch to get directions to Winchester Tourist Information Centre, by car or on foot, to find out the centre’s opening times or just press a call button to speak to a member of the team.
Alison Woods, Winchester City Council’s Tourist Information Centre Manager said: “We hope that this new technology will enable us to reach out to new customers, for example young people who may not have thought of using a tourist information centre to help plan their leisure time.”
Winchester City Council’s Leader Cllr George Beckett, who holds the portfolio for economy and tourism, added: “This new initative shows that Winchester City Council is firmly committed to using new technlogy to aid and improve the visitor experience. This follows on from Winchester City Council’s official tourism website, VisitWinchester, beating over 150 other nominees to scoop 'best tourism and leisure' website at this year’s Hantsweb Awards.”
