Make your First Thursdays count!

Winchester City Council and Winchester BID are working together to make the first Thursday of every month a more enjoyable evening in Winchester.

The first Thursdays of August, September, October and November will see a range of food, arts, crafts, music and late-night shopping on Winchester High Street.

Pop along after work or in the evening with your family for a relaxed party atmosphere between 4pm and 8pm.

Each ‘First Thursday’ party will have a theme, starting with families in August. Throughout the four months, you’ll be able to enjoy live music from the likes of trio Red Jackson and steel band Hurricane Force, local food for sale with free tasters, and excellent art and crafts for sale too.

The monthly party is being held to make the most of Winchester City Centre during the early evening, which is traditionally a quiet period in the city centre. The event will feature businesses from around the city, who will display the First Thursdays poster as a sign that they are taking part.

Cllr Dominic Hiscock, Portfolio Holder for Economic Prosperity at Winchester City Council, said: "These early evening activities will appeal to everyone, from city centre workers through to visitors and residents with children, or anyone just wanting some fun ‘down time’. The High Street will be the place to be, and the events will be supported by local shops, cafes and restaurants."

Amy McCartan, Winchester BID, added: "We are pleased to be organising events such as these in partnership with the City Council to encourage a designated late night shopping evening in Winchester. It provides businesses with the opportunity to move outdoors and meet the public to showcase their products and services. I feel that these events will greatly enhance Winchesters evening economy."
