British Views - photographic exhibition

The View on Bridge Street is currently featuring a new photographic exhibition of work by Winchester photographer Matt Burgess.

The photographs are taken from Matt’s book called British Views. The photographs are the result of a number of road trips that were undertaken to examine the nature of our relationship with the land and how we have chosen to live off it.

The series takes a metaphorical journey through the landscape looking at the production, processing, storage and distribution of produce. The photographs depict tensions apparent in the landscape alongside what Matt perceives as inhumane interiors which exist due to mass food production. Re-occurring themes in the work include collective behavior, the passing of time, division, and a sense that something has gone wrong.

Matt’s exhibition is on show at the view until 19 February.

Matt Burgess is a photographer and lecturer currently living in Winchester. He studied photography at the Arts University College Bournemouth.

Limited first edition artist’s books containing the complete British Views series (22 photographs) are available. You can find out more at his website www.mattburgess.co.uk
