‘Meet the Buyers’ event set to boost local economy

As the country climbs out of recession, the South Hampshire Partnership has announced the fourth Meet the Buyers Event on the 24th March 2010 at East Horton Golf Club in Fair Oak, Hampshire

This initiative enables major buying organisations within South Hampshire to meet local suppliers face-to-face.

The event is designed to build local supply chains and is funded by the South Hampshire Meet the Buyers partnership which includes Eastleigh Borough Council, the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire, Hampshire County Council, New Forest District Council, Test Valley Borough Council, and Winchester City Council.

Cllr George Beckett, Leader of Winchester City Council, is encouraging all local buyers to take part. He said: “Past Meet the Buyers events have seen businesses win contracts in excess of £100,000 to date, with a further £500,000 expected over the next 12 months. It’s a real chance for businesses to engage with local suppliers who can often offer cost savings and innovative solutions for businesses.”

At last year’s event, over 150 suppliers and 25 buyers took part, with over 20% of companies winning business and a further 60% believing they were likely to win business as a result of the event.

Senior buyers from organisations such as Carillion, Hampshire County Council, BAA Southhampton, Lakehouse Contract, and New Forest District Council have already committed to take part. They will all be given a buying office at the event, allowing them each to meet up to 40 small and medium sized businesses on the day.
