Young people to benefit from new Wheels to Work scheme

Wheels to Work is a new moped loan scheme to help people aged between 16 and 25 get to a job, vocational training, or to attend interviews. The scheme is for young people who live or work in rural areas with few or no public transport links.

Applicants who meet the criteria will be provided with a 50cc moped; fully taxed and insured, with full breakdown and service cover. They will also be provided with a helmet, gloves, high visibility vest, a locking device, and Compulsory Basic Training.

Scheme users only need to pay for fuel, contribute a small weekly hire charge, and accept responsibility for the day-to-day care of the bike. They will need to hold a provisional licence for motorcycles and will also need to pass Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). The latter will be organised by the scheme.

Wheels to Work is operated by Community First New Forest and is supported by East Hampshire District Council, Hampshire County Council, New Forest District Council, and Winchester City Council.

For more information on all aspects of the scheme, including how to apply, phone 0845 5216 405 (9.30am-4pm Mon-Fri) or email mopedloan@cfnf.org.uk. You can also contact your local  Community Transport Officer on 01962 845844 or community.transport@hants.gov.uk
