Speed Networking event launches new support network for local businesses

Press Release: 17/06/2009

For its latest measure to help the business community, Winchester City Council has teamed up with Southern Entrepreneurs to provide free networking and training opportunities for small businesses across the Winchester District.

Southern Entrepreneurs offers businesses free training in subjects relevant to their needs, along with networking opportunities which enable them to meet other members of the wider business community.  Member businesses are also able to call on the services of a Business Support Manager.

The Southern Entrepreneurs website at www.southernentrepreneurs.com provides a forum for members to advertise their own events and training, and a monthly newsletter in which they can showcase their businesses to fellow members. The website also contains useful information on other initiatives and invaluable articles written with small businesses in mind. A business directory which is accessed through the website is another valuable resource, allowing member businesses to be contacted by potential customers.

Cllr George Beckett, Leader of Winchester City Council, is pleased that Winchester businesses are now part of this growing network:

“This year sees the introduction of an extensive package of initiatives to help our local businesses, particularly the smaller ones which so often help to make the Winchester District so distinctive. This latest partnership with Southern Entrepreneurs will, I am sure, provide a popular and free resource for our business community.  I am looking forward to attending the first event – a speed networking evening - at Winchester Discovery Centre next month.”

Southern Entrepreneurs Business Support Manager Anne Dawson added:

“We are looking forward to welcoming plenty of new members from the Winchester area.  Winchester City Council has been keen to ensure that access to the excellent support system we provide comes at no cost to its local businesses.”

First established in 2004 by Eastleigh Borough Council to nurture small businesses in southern Hampshire, Southern Entrepreneurs has continued to flourish and expand.

The 'speed networking' evening, which includes a buffet, will take place on Tuesday 14 July at 6pm at Winchester Discovery Centre, Jewry Street, Winchester SO23 8SB.

Booking is essential.  For more information, or to book a place, please call Anne Dawson on 023 8068 8334, email anne.dawson@eastleigh.gov.uk, or visit www.southernentrepreneurs.com
