Winchester’s Silver Hill Scheme granted Planning Permission
Winchester City Council has issued planning consent for the Silver Hill regeneration scheme to Thornfield Properties. This marks a significant milestone in the Silver Hill scheme which is designed to help Winchester achieve its aspiration to be a vibrant and prosperous city worthy of its county town status.
Cllr George Beckett, Leader of Winchester City Council said, “These are difficult times for the economy and I am delighted that despite this we have managed to keep the project moving forward without reducing quality or compromising our ambitions. This quarter of Winchester needs regeneration and the Silver Hill scheme has all the right elements for success. I look forward to progressing to the next stage of development with Thornfield.”
Jason Marcus, Chairman of Thornfield Properties said, “Thornfield understands the qualities which make Winchester a great place to live and work. We have worked hard to produce a sensitive and commercially realistic scheme and we look forward to continuing our long term partnership with the city as we take the project forward.”
The City Council has already authorised the making of a compulsory purchase order (CPO) to assemble the Silver Hill site ready for development. It is normal for a public inquiry to be needed to consider whether the CPO should be confirmed and this will probably take place later in 2009.
