Local authorities give timely boost to South Hampshire businesses

Leading organisations in the South Hampshire area such as BAA, Honda and Mansell Construction will be among those looking for new suppliers at the South Hampshire Meet the Buyers showcase to be held on the 19 March 2009 at The Rosebowl.

This tailor-made event matches local suppliers with potential regional buyers.  It has been set up by a consortium of local authorities to deliver a real opportunity for small to medium sized businesses to gain new contracts and develop new partnerships.

Cllr George Beckett, Leader of Winchester City Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for businesses from around the Winchester District to meet face to face with some of the biggest public and private sector organisations in the region. Past Meet the Buyers events have seen businesses win contracts in excess of £100,000, so we know it’s a formula that works.”

Suppliers in sectors ranging from construction to communications, and from security to training will have the chance to book an appointment with selected buyers to present their services and products – and reinforce the ‘added value’ of buying local.

Organised by Eastleigh Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, Harbour Economic Development Forum, New Forest District Council, Test Valley Borough Council and Winchester City Council, the event reverses the traditional exhibition concept so it is the buyers not suppliers who have stands.

Suppliers are given a list of buyers detailing their purchasing requirements, from which they select their own sales appointments.
