Mayor offers thanks to city's brave parents

The Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Michael Read, recently invited the children of service personnel at Worthy Down to a special Tea Party at Abbey House.

The Mayor organised the Tea Party to thank those from Winchester who are currently serving in places such as Iraq, and to highlight the many children who have brave parents serving their country on the frontline.

The Children’s ages ranged from 6 months to 12 years and they were treated to drinks, cakes, and sandwiches at the special reception. The children were visibly excited at having been invited for tea at the Mayor’s official residence and the Mayor was delighted to have had the opportunity to give them a special treat.

The Mayor said: “It was wonderful to see all the children enjoying themselves and to be able to make this small gesture of thanks to their parents. I look forward to seeing all these children safely reunited with their brave mothers and fathers in the very near future”.
