Open Up, Lighten Up

There's a buzz on the streets of Winchester this September. For the first time, the city's High Street and Square go continental, with shops and cafes staying open later, and a chance to enjoy some free live blues, jazz and swing music and dance displays at the Buttercross on the High Street. With lots of great bands playing in the local pubs as well, there's something for everyone, including a family lantern workshop and procession on 26 September, walking tours and a fun run for the energetic!

Open Up - Lighten Up is Winchester's way of celebrating the launch of the Cultural Olympiad, the four year celebration of the best of Britain leading to London 2012. The event kicks off with Heritage Open Days from 11 to 14 September when local buildings throw open their doors to the public for FREE.

Whether you're a local business owner seeking to drum up extra trade, or just someone who wants an excuse to spend more time shopping, why not take advantage of a special programme of early evening activities and events in Winchester City Centre?

Clive Burgess, of Mayfest, has teamed up with Hat Fair to manage an early evening programme from Thursday 18th September until Friday 26th September.

Between 5:30pm and 7:30pm a wide range of events and activities will be taking place in the city centre. This is your opportunity to join in, and make the most of the evening economy!
